ETIM: new version 10.0 on December 5, 2024
The new version of the ETIM classification standard is now officially available. ETIM 10.0 was released on December 5, 2024 after a successful BETA phase.
What is ETIM?
ETIM (ElectroTechnical Information Model) is an international classification standard that standardizes product categories, parameters and values for various technical products. Participating sectors include electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC/plumbing), tools, hardware, factory equipment (WEBA) and building materials.
The standard is used by 21 national companies worldwide to optimize the international exchange of technical product information. In Germany alone, ETIM has 271 members from industry and trade who benefit from the structured provision of data and are actively involved in the further development of the standard.
What's new in ETIM Standard 10.0?
Since the release of ETIM 9.0, over 3,000 change requests have been processed. This extensive revision has eliminated duplicate entries and corrected incorrectly assigned classes. As a result, ETIM 10.0 offers even more accurate and reliable classification. The following changes have been implemented:
Improved structure and organization One of the most important improvements in ETIM 10.0 is that features are now grouped together. Features are now grouped into specific sections such as material, electrical properties or dimensions. This clear structure not only makes it easier to search for relevant information, but also optimizes how features are assigned and reduces potential sources of error.

New tools for environmental product data and increased international support ETIM 10.0 offers new tools for the collection and management of environmental product data that support the performance of life cycle assessments (LCA). Additionally, international support for ETIM standards will be expanded to cover a wider range of industries and regions.

ETIM Modeling Classes (ETIM MC) and BIM integration The further development of ETIM MC is a decisive step towards a better integration of ETIM with BIM platforms. Expanding the ETIM product classification system to include parametric models enables a more detailed and flexible description of products. This is of great importance for planning, constructing and operating buildings. |
International compatibility and customization ETIM 10.0 has a stronger international focus and takes national data specifics into greater consideration. Country-specific markings will be further expanded to ensure compatibility with local standards and regulations. This is an important step towards the global harmonization of product information.
|
Dynamic versioning and continuous improvement Another highlight of ETIM 10.0 is the dynamic versioning. This allows class definitions to be continuously updated without users having to completely reconfigure their systems. Users who use dynamic versioning automatically benefit from the latest improvements and enhancements.

ETIM xChange Version 1.0 for more efficient data exchange With the ETIM xChange Version 1.0, ETIM 10.0 introduces a new standard for exchanging ETIM data between different systems. This standard makes data exchange considerably easier and enables seamless integration of ETIM data into existing IT landscapes. |
